THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY (2013) – Movie Review ★★★★½
Cast – Ben Stiller, Kristen Wiig, Kathryn Hahn, Adam Scott and Sean Penn – Walter Mitty (Stiller) is an employee at Life magazine the head of the negative assets department and has been for the last 16 years, he often daydreams of fantastic adventures and one day at work he receives some negatives from Photojournalist Sean O’Connell for what will be the last print of Life magazine – upon checking the package he discovers that negative 25 is missing and since Mitty has never lost a photo in all his time at the company he decides to go on a real adventure in search of Sean O’Connell and negative 25 VERDICT from them opening shots of Walter in front of his computer deliberating whether or not to send a work colleague he’s grown fond of a “wink” on the eHarmony site, to the beautiful scenery of Iceland & the Himalaya’s this is a picture directed by a more mature Ben Stiller who takes us an unforgettable, heartwarming & humorous film ride, whilst reminding us all that instead of dreaming about the possibilities we can all make things happen to get the most out of life – some of my favorite scenes in the movie include the ridiculously badass fight scene between Stiller’s Mitty and Scott’s Ted on the streets of New York and the really funny Benjamin Button scene that almost felt out of place but was hilarious nevertheless – the soundtrack to the movie also deserves a big mention, with Kristen Wigg’s acoustic rendition of Bowie’s Space Oddity still playing over in my mind and the classic Hall Oates track Maneater setting their respective scenes perfectly – overall The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is such a rare cinematic experience these days – it’s cinematography is beautiful, it’s context is touching and it’s message is inspiring – this is an incredibly bold and ambitious picture that I just simply adored….
