FORGET about TERMINATOR Rise of the Machines, Salvation and Genisys these metal imposters are incredibly average when you compare them to Tim Miller’s latest chapter in the Terminator Franchise – DARK FATE starts with the pace of a freight train, the action pieces are quite brilliant and the eye popping special effects should be x-rated THEY ARE AWESOME !! I loved the way both Grace and Rev-9 are introduced, in typical Terminator fashion there are great flashes of light but also in the case of Rev-9 we get to see a frozen snap of items surrounding the robots entrance this is quite beautiful momentarily until it they all shatter, the camera work on these scenes especially the Rev-9s introduction is superb.
What’s apparent from the films start to it’s explosive finale is Tim Miller’s admiration for James Cameron and his 1984 Terminator and it’s sequel Judgement Day – if your a fan of both movies then DARK FATE will take you on a subtle walk down memory lane with old and new character interaction and moments that are obvious homages to these two great pieces of science fiction – It’s also a masterstroke bringing back Linda Hamilton, her iconic role of Sarah Connor IS BACK and boy she looks in incredible shape, her physical appearance is truly impressive and it’s great to see her and Arnold Schwarzenegger sharing some screen time again.
If your a fan of both James Cameron movies then TERMINATOR: DARK FATE will be a hugely enjoyable ride – I loved watching Hamilton, Davis and Reyes kicking some metal ass and as for Gabriel Luna’s super scary Rev-9 HOLY SHIT he may have just surpassed the T-1000 as the franchises second best villain after of course Arnie’s Terminator – Tim Miller deserves all the plaudits for re-igniting this much loved franchise, his ability to direct action with a certain amount of humor and cannon fueled intensity is once again present on the big screen, I for one can’t wait to buy another ticket ★★★★
THE PREDATOR : Shane Black
Boyd Holbrook, Sterling K Brown, Olivia Munn, Trevante Rhodes & Jacob Tremblay
In 1987 John McTiernan and Arnold Schwarzenegger joined forces to deliver one of the films of the decade Predator – the film is not only an effective action movie but it drips with suspense, has likeable characters that you actuals care for and most importantly it’s a well shot, humorous scifi that actually delivers for it’s audience – so when it was announced that Shane Black (Hawkins from the original movie) was actually shooting a new film I was pretty sceptical, but as the cast was announced and a few stills dropped I actual thought ummmmm this could actually work – sadly after just watching the movie on the big screen I can honestly say what a nauseating, unbelievably bad Predator movie Shane Black has given us, it’s so bad that I can’t even remember how half the protagonists met their demise (and that was like 20mins ago) – sadly you can’t dress the movie up with some of the original iconic score and then give us a horrible story including a laughable 11ft Predator and his pack hounds, bad almost comical at times acting and that includes the usually reliable Sterling K Brown who should stay well away from villainous roles as he gives a stinker, some mediocre CGI (and for an $80 million budget there’s no excuse) and a whole bunch of unlikeable throwaway characters – Overall Shane Black’s The Predator is one ugly mother-f@cker of a movie and one that I don’t expect to revisit ★★½
Saturday Night Live’s Taran Killam directs Arnold Schwarzenegger, Cobie Smulders and Bobby Moynihan in action comedy KILLING GUNTHER and judging by the below trailer this could be one hell of a night eating popcorn and chuckling your way through some rather stupid but fun slapstick comedy – Arnie plays Gunther (the world’s greatest hit-man) but is in deep deep trouble, a bunch of disgruntled assassins decide they want him dead and that’s where the fun really starts…..
Here’s 2 brand new movie posters – on the left is the teaser for the 24th James Bond outing titled SPECTRE that sees the return of Daniel Craig as super spy 007 and behind the camera once more Sam Mendes – the confirmed cast also includes Dave Bautista, Léa Seydoux, Monica Belluci and Christoph Waltz excited yet? – on the right hand side the latest reboot of Sci-fi franchise TERMINATOR GENISYS that’s helmed by Alan Taylor (Thor 2) and stars Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke, Spartacus star Jai Courtney and the return of “I’ll be Back” and the man who started it all Arnold Schwarzenegger !!
Here’s the latest trailer for The Expendables 3 – this time around Stallone has brought in a new director in Red Hill’s Patrick Hughes and also brings in some new faces that includes Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford, Antonio Banderas and Kelsey Grammer these guys join up with Expendable veteran’s Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li, Randy Couture & Stallone himself – as you would expect this looks one hell of an action ride – the film lands this summer take a look at the trailer and Enjoy!
The Expendables 3 – US (15th August) – UK (14th August) – Australia (N/A)
Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as Breacher a DEA agent who’s team has been targeted by a mysterious assassin in David Ayer’s SABOTAGE – judging by this trailer, the pretty awesome cast and Ayer’s previous movies that include Street Kings, Harsh Times & End of Watch SABOTAGE looks one hell of a ride and has my action juices flowing quicker than Niagra Falls
The Sabotage cast also includes: Mireille Enos (The Killing), Joe Manganiello (True Blood), Terrence Howard (Iron Man), Josh Holloway (Lost), Sam Worthington (Avatar), Max Martini (Pacific Rim) and Olivia Williams (Sixth Sense) – Here’s the action packed trailer…. Enjoy!
David Ayer’s Sabotage hits our cinema screens in April 2014
Escape Plan (2013) – Movie Review ★★★★
“You hit like a vegetarian”
Cast Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jim Caviezel, Vinnie Jones, Amy Ryan, 50 Cent & Sam Neill – Ray Breslin (Stallone) is a former prosecutor and now owns a security firm specializing in testing how reliable maximum security prisons are in the country – Breslin takes the unusual steps by getting put away in these prisons and then attempting to break-out, in the process testing the prisons design, it’s security and how escape-proof that particular prison is – during a board meeting at his firm a CIA agent offers Breslin 5 Million Dollars for his services in breaking out of a top-secret prison, the prisons location must remain secret – Breslin agrees to the terms, gets himself captured and the next thing he knows is when he wakes up in his cell, a room that is part of a complex of cells with no outside windows, so Breslin is none the wiser to where he has placed and that’s when the fun really begins VERDICT this is what the movies are all about – popcorn flicks get no bigger than a feature film starring the best two action stars in the business – Swedish director Mikael Håfström known for his work on 1408 and The Rite handles this action flick superbly well, it’s got everything a cinematic ride should have – a delicious villain played by Jim Caviezel, an evil henchman Vinnie Jones, a quick tempo with some fun fight scenes and fabulous cheesy one liner’s that only Arnie and Sly could deliver – overall Escape Plan is brilliant entertainment and I just hope that these two action heroes don’t leave it too long before teaming up in a feature movie one more time….
