Interstellar (2014) – Movie Review ★★★★½
“We will find a way, we always have“
Director: Christopher Nolan – Cast: Matthew McConaughey, Mackenzie Foy, Michael Caine, Matt Damon, Casey Affleck, Anne Hathaway & Jessica Chastain – Synopsis: Nolan crafts yet another sublime movie mind twister that’s all about following your heart and delivering on a promise made – Interstellar is a cinematic ride that delves deep into the heart of the darkness of space, it pulls on the toughest of heart strings and is a visual cocktail of mesmerizing imagery that’s beautiful to watch – the cast delivers tenfold with relative newcomer Mackenzie Foy and veteran Matthew McConaughey giving the movie it’s emotion & backbone igniting the screen with compelling performances that allow the viewer to feel engaged & invested in their journey – once again the magic of a Nolan picture is further enhanced by its score with Hans Zimmer bringing us a fresh & at times loud original sound that accompanies the movie beautifully – Overall: INTERSTELLAR is the most ambitious, audacious thought provoking science fiction movie for many years – it deserves to be seen on the big screen – so go on what are you waiting for !!

AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY (2014) – Movie Review ★★★★
August: Osage County stars Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Chris Cooper, Ewan McGregor, Benedict Cumberbatch, Juliette Lewis, Abigail Breslin, Dermot Mulroney, Sam Shepard, Julianne Nicholson, Margo Martindale and Misty Upham – Written by Tracy Letts, brought to the screen by John Wells (The Company Men) and based on the Pulitzer Prize–winning play of the same name August: Osage County takes a look at the lives of the Weston family, whose paths reunite after a family crisis brings them all back together to the house they all grew up in, and to the dysfunctional woman who raised them – VERDICT Compelling, Exhausting, Depressing and Chaotic just a few words to describe my experience with John Well’s big screen adaption of August: Osage County – I’ve seen some great performances by an actress in 2013/14 but Meryl Streep’s Violet is by far & away the best of the bunch, her passion & energy in displaying the vast emotions of the cancer stricken, pill popping mum who’s pretty much angry or drugged up the majority of the time is fabulous to watch – Julia Roberts gives her best acting display since Erin Brokovich playing the eldest daughter and Chris Cooper, the ever reliable Margo Martindale and Julianne Nicholson are all superb in support – some of my favorite scenes in the movie include that moment when Charlie aka: Chris Cooper says Grace at the dinner table, the wonderful moment when young Charlie sings to Ivy and that delightfully funny scene with Violet, Barbara and Ivy around the table “Eat the Fish Bitch” whilst Ivy is trying to tell her mum that she’s in love with young Charlie – overall August: Osage County is not just a platform for A-List actors to strut their stuff, it’s a beautiful at times depressing story of a dysfunctional family brought together in a time of crisis and what plays out is like a roller coaster ride, that’s intense, riveting and altogether emotionally exhausting….

the film stars Macon Blair, Amy Hargreaves, Sidné Anderson, Devin Ratray, and Kevin Kolack and is directed by Jeremy Saulnier – here’s the latest trailer…. enjoy!

Two new movie stills have landed – the first showing Ben Affleck in David Fincher’s GONE GIRL “A woman mysteriously disappears on the day of her wedding anniversary” the film is a big screen adaption of Gillian Flynn’s novel of the same name and also stars Rosamund Pike & Kim Dickens – the second picture on the right is from the new biopic The Imitation Game about British wartime cryptographer Alan Turing played by Sherlock’s Benedict Cumberbatch and is directed by Norwegian filmmaker Morten Tyldum
“After a stint in prison a street racer who was framed gets the chance to act revenge on the guy who sent him down” – Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul headlines Scott Waugh’s NEED FOR SPEED – from the writer and producer of Underworld comes the Stuart Beattie (Tomorrow, When the War Began) directed fantasy horror film I, FRANKENSTEIN that stars Aaron Eckhart, Bill Nighy and Yvonne Strahovski – here’s two new movie posters…. Enjoy!
With the new trailer imminent Fox has released 4 new posters for Matt Reeves Dawn of the Planet of the Apes that lands next summer – the movie stars Andy Serkis (Caesar), Judy Greer (Cornelia), Gary Oldman, Keri Russell and Jason Clarke – loved Matt Reeves 2008 Cloverfield and enjoyed Rise of the Planet of the Apes so this sequel is high on my watch list for 2014 – here’s them posters to whet the appetite…. Enjoy!
Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as Breacher a DEA agent who’s team has been targeted by a mysterious assassin in David Ayer’s SABOTAGE – judging by this trailer, the pretty awesome cast and Ayer’s previous movies that include Street Kings, Harsh Times & End of Watch SABOTAGE looks one hell of a ride and has my action juices flowing quicker than Niagra Falls
The Sabotage cast also includes: Mireille Enos (The Killing), Joe Manganiello (True Blood), Terrence Howard (Iron Man), Josh Holloway (Lost), Sam Worthington (Avatar), Max Martini (Pacific Rim) and Olivia Williams (Sixth Sense) – Here’s the action packed trailer…. Enjoy!
David Ayer’s Sabotage hits our cinema screens in April 2014
Big Ass Spider (2013) – Movie Review ★★
Cast Greg Grunberg, Lombardo Boyar & Ray Wise – whilst receiving some treatment for an insect bite at a local hospital an exterminator (Grunberg) gets in the middle of the military & a bunch of scientists that are tracking and attempting to kill an alien Big Ass Spider – VERDICT – sadly the best bits of Mike Mendez’s B-Movie homage are left to the camp and it must be said dreadful visuals, you know the ones I mean? the Spider chasing a car down the road, the Spider rampaging into a team of bikini clad volleyball players and last but not least the Spider ascending a tall building in almost King Kong style – I usually adore these type of B-Movies, all tongue-in-cheek and mostly lots of fun, especially the ones that include some sort of mutated insect or an alien being hell bent on destroying earth but sadly Big Ass Spider did not take me on the ride I had hoped it would – it is 80mins of very bad acting, horrible visuals, some wasted onscreen talent (Ray Wise) and some terrible comedy dialogue – Overall Big Ass Spider will not be joining the likes of Eight Legged Freaks and Arachnophobia in the ranks of decent, well done Spider flicks, instead it will joining the likes of Sharknado on my list of movies that shall be forgotton & never revisited…
Prisoners (2013) – Movie Review ★★★★½
Stars Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Maria Bello, Paul Dano, Terrence Howard, Melissa Leo & Viola Davis – Keller Dover (Jackman) take his family over to his neighbors the Birch’s (Howard & Davis) to celebrate Thanksgiving, after dinner the families young daughters go out playing and as time ticks by it becomes apparent that the girls have gone missing – after calling the police a frantic search gets underway, but there’s still no sign of the two girls – Keller suspects a local simpleton who drives an RV & was last seen in the area where the girls disappeared, he doesn’t see much progress being made by Loki a police detective played by Gyllenhaal who’s on the case so decides to takes matters into his own hands VERDICT boy that was intense! a tough subject matter to portray on film and one that pulls at the heartstrings as you watch the parents struggle to come to terms with their daughters disappearance & the emotions they must be feeling at times making it difficult viewing – all credit to the cast and crew of making Prisoners such an engaging film experience. I really felt for all the characters from Hugh Jackman’s religious father who takes the law into his own hands, Paul Dano’s superb portrayal of the accused and Jake Gyllenhaal who is outstanding as Loki the officer trying to solve the case – the film’s location also deserves a mention, it’s dreariness, wet and darkly lit streets and the interior camera work of the houses that are seen throughout the picture lend to the overall tension that’s slowly building from movies opening scenes – overall this is an edge of the seat thriller, that will grind your fingernails to a pulp, it’s truly heart in the mouth stuff and one that you should not be missed on the big screen….
